The Kiddos New Room

Yesterday we finally had time to start decorating the kids' room.

Our little boy and little girl are sharing a room in the meantime. The cartoon they have in common that they love are Minnie and Mickey. Therefore, we decided that we would decorate their room this way.

I had my husband re-decorating by painting the kids daybed from a natural brown wood to a flat black to match the dresser. He also painted a wooden frame we had to black to match the room. The frame has a Mickey Mouse puzzle I completed some time ago for Dominic. Perhaps I should go and find a Minnie Mouse one now for my Sanaris.
While my husband was painting outside I was organizing the kids toys. In their toy boxes I found a bunch of Mickey and Minnie's they have received over the years. One of the girls at work also gave me some Disney snow globes and a Fantasia canvas for their room.
I have to change their lamps now to something that matches the decor. I think I will add some black/pink/red/yellow ribbon to it. I will see what I do with it as I go along. I also have a little black shelf that will be going into the room and I found these perfect little Mickey and Minnie figurines to make them their snow globes of each of their characters for that shelf. You can make your own snow globe by following my tutorial here. It was actually quite funny this morning when I hand Minnie over to my daughter she says, "What happened Minnie? You stuck?" hahaha. It was the cutest thing ever. My son, on the other hand, was not the least bit excited about this. He tells me, "I want Mickey outside not inside." I think once he sees his whole room pieced together he will love it. He is just like his father in that aspect, he needs to see it all pieced together to see the bigger picture.
I will have to post some pictures later of the completed room since it's only half way completed right now.

Until next time! Toodles! (yes, pun intended...lol)

I am back posting the pictures of the semi-completed room, we still have to paint and hang up a picture frame or two.

And those are the kids having fun jumping on their new bed after being told not to. Apparently they couldn't resist taking the pictures without jumping. :)

Snow Globe Nail Tutorial

Someone told me about a nail supply store here in Homestead, FL that sells nail polish at wholesale prices. So I decided to stop by and pay them a visit yesterday for this idea I had in mind.

If you happen to be in the Homestead area or live in the homestead area...visit Miami Nail Supply. They have nail polishes such as O-P-I for less than $5, Essie for less than $3. They even have less expensive ones like Jade or Color Club from $1-2. It's definitely a bargain and well worth it, especially if you change your nail polish color as often as I like to change mine.

So on my visit yesterday I purchased the following:

You don't have to buy the same ones, but you can purchase something similar, or you may already have these items at home.

DIRECTIONS:
1. Paint your nails with a clear base coat. (I used Jade-Milky base coat)
2. Paint your nails with 2 coats of white. (I used Jade-Snow White)
3. Paint your nails with a shimmery glitter paint. (I used Color Club-Starry Temptress)
4. Paint your nails with a clear top coat. (I used Jade-Clear top coat)
5. Let it dry fully and enjoy!

They look like miniature snow globes...perfect for the winter season or for Christmas.

Snow Globe Tutorial

In January I will be decorating the kids room so I had an idea to build them shelves above their bed and place some snow globes on their shelves to match their decor. Before I do this however, I wanted to do a test run.

I found these little globes at Michael's that come with instructions inside on how to make them.

The idea is pretty simple. All you need are the following items:
-Snow globe from your local crafting store. (or you can substitute by using a mason jar)
-Figurine you'd like to place on the inside. (plastic, porcelain or metal- if using metal make sure it won't rust first)
-E6000 glue
-Distilled Water (boil tap water and allow it to cool)
-Snow powder and/or Glitter
-Liquid Glycerin

First, glue figurine to the inside of the lid using the E6000 glue. Allow to dry for a few hours until completely dry. Second, fill the jar half way with distilled water. Next, add one drop of glycerin (use two drops if it's a larger jar.) This will aid in dropping the snow powder/glitter slower. Then, add sparkles and fill jar to the very top with water. Lastly, add glue around the inside rim of the lid before closing it into the jar/globe.This will help to seal the lid so that children will not be able to remove it. Allow to dry fully. You can also embellish by using ribbon, paper to line the bottom part of the globe (lid), etc.

Shake, shake, shake and enjoy!
